Cria-ting an investment the whole family can enjoy! |

We are Mike and Glenda Hertless. Dorrell Creek Alpacas is a combination of dreams and visions of our family to one day raise alpacas and the man that built the house we now call home. We are located between Richmond and Fredericksburg, Virginia. Just 30 minutes North of Richmond and 30 minutes South of Fredericksburg, just minutes away from the I-95 exit near Paramount’s King’s Dominion. In 1999, we purchased our first alpaca, which we have kept at a nearby farm, along with several other alpacas that have been added through the years. Initially, we wanted to learn more about alpacas and also find out if they truly were a tax advantage and investment. The more involved we became with the alpacas, the more drawn we were to the animals and the lifestyle. Also as it turned out, in our opinion, it became a far better investment with livestock than with the dead stock of the stock market. Our two children, Ric and Stephanie, were into their college years. This particular family milestone became an even greater change when we decided to sell the home we had lived in for 17 years to purchase our own farm. We found 86 acres in a nearby county with an existing house, which was the dream & vision of the man that built it in 1992. A house built with a great deal of personal care & detail and later sold to us. Our plan is to continue the same personal care & detail with the alpacas raised here at Dorrell Creek Alpacas. Our experiences with alpacas have been enriching. Our exposure and experience with alpacas was initially made possible by our good friends, Richard and Sandra Carter at Clearview Farm Alpacas. They have spoon fed us on alpaca life & sometimes in the literal sense with meals provided on a long stay during our hands on experience. Experiences such as developing pastures, shearing, feeding, birthing, and maintaining alpacas, accumulating “alpaca beans”, and building barns. Check back in again soon and watch the progress at Dorrell Creek Alpacas. Click here to see some of our other animals on our farm |
